Alayna here. We’re back for volume 3 of the sweetest email in your inbox.
Today we’re chatting about pumpkin-flavored baked goods, a craft show recap and my most popular cake flavor.
Let’s sweet talk.
Pumpkin-You-Not?
Here in Michigan, fall is in full swing. I’ll be honest with you, my newsletter pals, I don’t LOVE pumpkin-flavored baked goods. I don’t understand why once September hits, pumpkin is in everything from granola to hummus to spaghetti. My husband recently discovered that you can get pumpkin-flavored Howie Bread from Hungry Howie’s. Why. MAYBE I’ll have a singular pumpkin spice latte, but that’s it. I made pumpkin streusel coffee cake for my church’s coffee hour recently, and while it was good, it just isn’t my vibe. AND THAT’S OK. I yam who I yam. and it certainly isn’t yams in my dessert.
BUT I will say that I made these pumpkin muffins recently and they received rave reviews from my church fam. I only needed one and my pumpkin quota for the year was filled, but man look at those crinkly tops! Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar, or better yet demerara sugar, on top of any muffin to elevate it a bit!
Now, there are other fall desserts that I love with a capital L. Apple crisp is at the top of my list. I always double the streusel topping because it’s the best part. There’s something about the smell of Michigan apples cooking with cinnamon and sugar in the oven, while you light a fall candle and listen to the wind rattle leaves around your yard. Did I just describe an evening of bliss? YUP.

Craft Show Success!
I had a blast at the St. Mark Lutheran craft show last weekend! I got to talk about cookies for hours on a Saturday- nothing better than that! My mom even helped me man the table, not to mention my husband and my dad who helped set up and take down! Thanks, fam!

Cake of the Week: Oreo Extreme
This one is an all-time favorite. Each layer of white cake has a layer of crushed Oreos in between. Paired with chocolate ganache and covered with Oreo Swiss meringue buttercream, it’s a cake that is a true celebration of America’s favorite cookie!
Do you have a celebration coming up? Maybe a birthday, a staff party or a big milestone? Perhaps you’re in charge of bringing dessert to the tailgate and you have no time to whip anything up. Let me bake for you!
