Sweet Talk with Francine's Sweets: Episode 4

Writer: Alayna KendallAlayna Kendall

Alayna here. We’re back for volume 4 of the sweetest email in your inbox.

Today we’re chatting about my latest cookie creations, a great idea for party favors and another nostalgic cake flavor!

Let’s sweet talk.

Holiday Recipe Testing

Tis the season to be working on my holiday menu! Recipe testing is one of my favorite parts of owning a baking business because it’s a time to try new ideas and see what sticks. I tested out two different flavors, and you, my newsletter fam, are the first to hear about them!

My first new flavor is a Nutella-stuffed cookie. I took my chocolate chip cookie base and stuffed it with a whole lotta Nutella. I drizzled it with some melted Nutella and topped it with sea salt. Previously, I had created this cookie with a chocolate base, but it was just a bit TOO much chocolate ya feel? This version is much more balanced.

I didn’t get into Nutella until I was in college so I have 18 years of a Nutella-free lifestyle to catch up on. These cookies will do the trick.

The sun was out and shining on the day I made and photographed these puppies. I’m getting hungry…

My second new flavor is apple pie but in cookie form! It has a cinnamon cookie base and is filled with homemade apple pie filling. No additives, no stabilizers, it’s all nat-ur-al, baby! But the best part is the homemade salted caramel sauce, followed up by a sprinkling of sea salt on top. The sweet, gooey filling pairs SO well with the cookie and salted caramel sauce.

A lot of times when I am working on a new recipe, I only take a few bites just so I can see if it needs tweaking. Not this cookie. I have eaten wayyy too many in the past week, but I’m telling myself they’re semi-healthy thanks to the apples. Did the thought cross my mind to put a lil dollop of whipped cream on top? Uh DUH, I’d be a monster if it didn’t. I think I just made my Friday night plans.

I cannot say it enough, this cookie is ADDICTING. A dozen of these would be perfect for your Thanksgiving dessert table or a Friendsgiving party!

What other holiday flavors would you like to see this year? Let me know!

The Tastiest Party Favors!

One of my favorite parts of attending a wedding or baby shower is seeing what kind of creative party favors the host has come up with. If you’re looking for a fun and delicious favor for your next party, individually packaged cookies are a great option! They’re cute, tasty and easily transportable. These would be so cute for a gender reveal party with pink and blue M&Ms! The options really are endless. Order yours today!

Cake of the Week: Funfetti

Do you remember the excitement of a classmate’s birthday back in grade school? When you saw your bestie hop out of her Chrysler Town and Country with a plastic container of funfetti cupcakes, complete with those little “Happy Birthday” toppers on ‘em, and you knew it was about to be a GOOD day. Now, if you got picked by said bestie to help her hand out the napkins and cupcakes to the class, well shoot, you were going to be friends for life… or at least until the start of social studies class.

And since we’re all just 4th graders in adult bodies, we still feel the thrill of bringing in a birthday treat to the office or for a friend’s party. This cake is perfect for every occasion, from your 30th birthday, to a wedding anniversary, or simply as a reward for making it through another work week. These days you might be pulling up in your RAV4, but the same delight that you felt in 4th grade will reappear when your friends see this cake in your hands.

Thanks for reading!
